Adapter Plate for 1989-2002 Cummins® 12-Valve & 24-Valve to 1987-1997 Ford® 7.3L diesel ZF-5 speed. Uses a Ford 6.4L/6.0L starter.
The kit includes instructions for the adapter plate and bolts.
Supporting parts you need - or may already have - that are not included with this item are:
- Ford 6.4L/6.0L diesel starter
 - Clutch & Flywheel

Additional Notes:
- NO grinding is necessary on the transmission bell housing for starter clearance!
 - Minimal and insignificant grinding of the Cummins adapter plate bolt bosses may be required, but this does not ruin the Cummins engine block core value.
 - We offer three clutch kit options for the ZF5:
- South Bend Clutch ZF-5 Clutch Kit, Includes Flywheel: DCS SKU 1861
 - South Bend Clutch ZF-5 Performance Clutch Kit (475 hp and 1000 ft/lbs), Includes Flywheel: DCS SKU 1863
 - South Bend Clutch Kit for 1987-1997 Ford® ZF-5 Speed to Cummins®, High Performance Dual Disc (650 hp, 1300 ft/lbs): DCS SKU 2143

The best way to identify if you have a gasoline version of the ZF5 is the 0.5" dowels on the bellhousing. The dowel pins are also staggered - the driver's side being higher up on the bellhousing than the passenger side. The diesel version uses 0.375" dowel and are directly across from one another.

Cummins adapter plate.
I have had this adapter hooked to a 7.3 zf5 in my 79 F350 4x4 for about 5 years now and it has been an excellent product. I don’t recall any modifications needed to make it fit.
