If you have never heard of the Killer Dowel Pin in the 12 valve and 1998.5 - 2002 24 valve Cummins- it is a dowel pin right above the cam gear that is notorious for coming out of the engine block and falling down in the gears. When it does it usually causes a lot of damage. This cover keeps the pin from coming out.
